Seriously how adorable is this snow person and dog?
MaryKyle and John Mark made them all by themselves last night!
We ooohed and aaahhhed!!
now the snow person is in the freezer....sigh....

I just love the moments that snow somehow can help create.
What is it about this cold white stuff?
Maybe it's not the same somewhere that gets tons of snow....I don't know.
But I don't remember my Mother fussing at me for tracking snow or puddles in the house.
although she probably did a time or two (or 50)

I DO remember the hot cocoa, Russian tea, snowmen, sledding and running in and out to warm up with all my friends in tow and just a general carefree fun magical feeling!!

So today when the kids went racing out to play with the kids in the neighborhood (after doing some school work) and I thought.....'aaahhhhhh Silence....a nice break! Now, I can kick back and check blogs and facebook...whooohooo!!!'

I kicked myself

it worked (today).

and I made cookies and cocoa.
And served it (on china with candles lit) to my kids and
the bunch of kiddos they were playing with.

And later when one of the boys came
back in the house on one of their warm up sessions and said
"Ms R. would you mind making some more of that delicious cocoa"

Gulp....that I'd used the last of with the previous servings.
But he called it "delicious" What else could I do???

Well melt of course, and make some more cocoa mix!!

And the kids were happy....
(even if seconds weren't served in the china tea cups cuz they were still dirty)
and so was the Mommy!!

Want to make some too?

Here's the recipe:

In a BIG....
no BIGGER bowl combine:
10 cups powdered milk
4 3/4 cups powdered sugar
2 cups cocoa (we like it dark)
1 1/2 - 2 cups of powdered coffee creamer
(try different flavors for some fun flavor...we like hazelnut)

That's it.
for a smaller coffee cup put in about 3 TBSP with hot water
For a good ol regular size mug....about 4 with hot water. Just whatever tastes
yummy to your tastebuds! made your own cocoa. My kids think that's "very COOL" and like to help make it.

I know I know it's far from the raw milk we drink each day to stay away from icky chemicals and fake stuff. If anyone has a recipe that doesn't use the creamer or the milk, please pass it on!! But, for now, it's a nice winter help in memory making.

my mom always had this cocoa recipe made up for us...and i have made it too, i just don't keep huge tubs made at all times like she did. it's good stuff! sounds like a great snow day, and i love the china and candles part, makes me feel great too to serve my kids a desert on a china plate from the thrift store. that is also good stuff!

i wish WE could build a snowman!!! man, i think it's been about 8 years since we've had enough snow for a snowman! looks like fun.

I think you'll have to skip the creamer and powdered milk and just add your own milk if you want a "healthier" version. Try this one (I haven't, but plan to . . . as soon as we finish up our store-bought stash):

My GrandMother always did too Darla. She always had a great big tall lime green tupperware cannister filled with it....oh the memories!!

I should have pointed out Carrie that this snow person is only about a foot tall.

Thanks LB, I'll check it out!! I know there is something out there! My sil had the most delicious homemade coffee creamers with her raw milk that a friend had done as Xmas gifts....oh they were YUMMY!! Need to start researching that too! Streusel was my favorite!!!

Unrelated; comment to post... in :)
I have an icon on my blog, that has the link to the eIditarod. I think it will send links if you sign up through Yahoo (it's a free account and a group that sends out the updates.)
I'm going to try to make our map on Monday- and will post a pict if I can.
LOVE THE SNOW PICT OF THEM IN THE SLED... too cute. MK looks like she's headed down the hill of her life.

Sorry to be a downer...I'm kind of sick of snow! We've had COLD,COLD,and MORE COLD since we got back from Honduras in Nov so the magic of snow has sort of worn off! But, the call for Yummy hot chocolate has NOT! I just today looked up online to try to find a recipe to make my own mix and then I just happened to read your blog tonight and viola! there was exactly the thing I needed! Thanks for sharing! I do wish we could share some of our mountains of snow with you all! A trip up this way would be just the thing to help you all get your fill! :)
